Walking Tour in Schwarzwald

Science tells us that healing of the soul walks hand in hand with healing of the body. Literally. Therefore, we offer hiking tour, in one of the most beautiful places on Earth – Schwartzwald (Black Forest) in Germany. Its 120km (73 miles) long Schluchtensteig trail takes you through the wild canyons and gentle meadows, cozy villages and serene waters, adorned with a view of the peak Feldberg and Swiss Alps.

It will test your endurance and reward you with lifelong memories. This is perfect adventure for most of the year, especially summer, when greenery forms thick curtains that keep civilization out of sight. Upon entering the forest, it is easy to understand how Grimm brothers had created their fairy tales. Besides hiking, we offer biking tour through this nature’s gem in the southern part of Schwartzwald. Pack your walking shoes or mountain bike and set your mind to overpower elevation of 3000 meters. Leave your luggage transfer, accommodation and trip details to us. You will never regret it.

The distances and ascents/descents are approximations of the recommended routes. Please be prepared by packing all necessary items, for example proper rain gear, sun hat, sunscreen. Your information pack has detailed advice and a kit list on what to take. This includes good waterproof gear, walking shoes/boots, and lots of other useful bits and bobs.

Grade & Fitness

This tour involves some easy and sometimes more difficult sections, which is why we have classified it as moderate overall. There are narrow paths which are rocky, with exposed tree roots in some parts. There is a lot of undulating terrain which can be tiring and demanding. Some of the paths are precipitous so you should be sure-footed and have a head for heights. On the other hand, you will encounter many easy sections on wide forest tracks and trails. Also, you will always have the
opportunity to use the hiking bus on all stages with the Konus guest card. By doing so, you will ultimately decide for yourself how difficult and long each days’ walk is, and how you can tailor your journey to suit your fitness.

KONUS Guestcard

If you want to shorten a stage or skip it altogether, or if you want to return to Stühlingen at the end of the journey from Wehr, there is an extensive network of trains and buses in the region that you can use for free with the Konus guest card. In most of our accommodations you will receive a guest card in the form of a day pass for the following day. Timetables for the leisure buses and trains in the Wutach and Gauchach gorges can be found in your information pack. You can also get up-to date timetables and information at your accommodations.

Travel Insurance

It is a requirement of booking this tour with Ticket Service USA that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the activity and emergency evacuation and hospital care.

Tour Plan

1

1st day: Arrival to Stühlingen

Your 75 miles walking tour starts at Rebstock Hotel in Stühlingen .Overnight stay in Stühlingen
2

Day 2: Stühlingen to Blumberg (approx. 13 miles, Hm ↗ 1,850 ft, Hm ↘ 1,080 ft)

On the very first day, you will learn how the Schluchtensteig got its name. In addition, the climbs aremrewarded with beautiful views. In the spring, the water rushes especially loud and the smell of wild garlic rises on this stage in the nose. In bad weather or just so the trip is recommended with the historic steam locomotive "Sauschwänzle train" of Stühlingen wheat (about 4 km after the start of the day's stage) to Blumberg.  Overnight stay in Blumberg.
3

Day 3: Blumberg to Schattenmühle (approx.. 12 miles, Hm ↗ 1,150 ft Hm ↘ 1,310 ft)

The whole day is the only highlight of your hike through the Wutachschlucht: rushing water, high waterfalls, deep views, lush green and wide views. At the end of the day you will arrive directly at your rustic accommodation in Schattenmühle, where it is pleasantly cool in summer. This place is right on the end of the stage 2, however it is isolated. Overnight in Schattenmühle. (Optional higher class accommodation, requires extra charge)
4

Day 4: Schattenmühle to Fischbach (aprox. 12 miles, Hm ↗ 2,170 ft, Hm ↘ 1,000 ft)

From all sides little brooks line the way today. Particularly beautiful are the Rötenbachmündung and the Haslachmündung with quite idyllic places. After there was hardly any refreshments in the last few days, today you can take a walk through the charming village of Lenzkirch, where you can relax in one of the cafés and take a short break. Overnight in Fischbach, a part of Schluchsee.
5

5th day: Fischbach to St. Blasien (approx. 13 miles, Hm ↗ 1,440 ft, Hm ↘ 2,400 ft)

Shortly after your departure, following the trail above the lake, one of the most beautiful views of the whole tour awaits you: the view from the picture stone to the Schluchsee and Feldberg. In good weather, the view extends even to the Alps. Then the descent to the Schluchsee follows, which now accompanies you to the beautifully situated Unterkrummenhof. A refreshment there is worthwhile, because now it goes uphill on varied forest trails. At the end of the day, the imposing Cathedral of St. Blasien awaits you. Overnight in St. Blasien
6

Day 6: St. Blasien to Todtmoos (approx. 12 miles, Hm ↗ 1,900 ft, Hm ↘ 1,770 ft)

Immediately after breakfast we will go uphill with wonderful views back to St. Blasien. The whole day is dominated by enchanting views: on one side the Black Forest panorama greets you, on the other hand the Swiss Alps, which seem close enough to touch on some days, beckon. Overnight in Todtmoos – Strick (excellent 4*, wellness hotel).
7

Day 7: Todtmoos to Wehr (approx. 14 miles, Hm ↗ 1,640 ft, Hm ↘ 2,950 ft)

On beautiful forest paths, the last leg takes you to your destination in Wehr. On the way, you will always hike on narrow paths with steep slopes. A short additional climb to the Mettlerhütte is worthwhile. The small cabin is not hosted, but there is a fountain in front of it, where you can fill up your water supplies and enjoy the beautiful view. From the Wehra Reservoir, the path continues until weir. Overnight in Wehr
